Tax on a change order

On a Jobber job with a tax rate, the change order adds the tax the same way Jobber does, so the customer signs off on what Jobber will charge.

When the Jobber job has a tax rate, Changed shows the change the way Jobber will charge it. Nothing to set up: the rate comes from the job in Jobber.

What the totals show

  • Before this change: the job total in Jobber, with its tax.
  • This change before tax: the lines added, less any credits.
  • The tax line, with Jobber's name and rate for it, for example GST 5%.
  • This change with tax: what the customer signs off on.
  • New job total: with the tax, the same as the job total Jobber shows once the lines are in.

The builder, the customer's page, the signed PDF, the emails and the note in Jobber all show the same lines. A job with no tax rate shows This change and the New job total as before.

Which lines are taxed

  • A line from From your products & services is taxed if the item is taxable in Jobber.
  • A line you write is taxed.
  • A credit for a line On this job now is taxed if that line was taxed in Jobber. A line that is not taxed says no tax.

A credit takes the tax off too.

How the tax is worked out

The same way Jobber does it: the rate on the job's taxed lines, to the cent, after the change less before it. So the new job total in Changed and the job's total in Jobber match to the cent. When the lines go back to Jobber, each one is marked taxed or not, the way it was on the change order.

A change order made before 4 November 2026 keeps the numbers it showed. A signed-off change order's numbers never move.
